Companies don’t remain leaders in their markets without listening to their customers. The impact of ignoring customers is obvious. In retail, there is a name for it: the retail apocalypse.

However, in contrast to the companies impacted by the retail apocalypse, there are many success stories. Petco is one such example. They have been the leader in pet supplies and services for more than 50 years and operate more than 1,500 retail stores.

Earlier this year Petco chose Yantriks to enable a key capability for today’s e-consumer: buy online pick up in-store (BOPUS). Powered by the Yantriks Personalized Fulfillment Platform (PFP), this provides Petco customers with the option to view available inventory online, purchase products from nearby stores and pick them up that same day. This level of convenience and personalization is now a requirement for all retailers.

Providing this capability isn’t as easy as you might think. Petco’s technical architecture, like most retailers, was comprised of multiple disparate platforms prohibiting the ability to achieve a single view of inventory availability needed for BOPUS. Further, it didn’t operate at the scale and performance required for

To enable BOPUS and to provide a modern platform on which to build future omni-channel capabilities, the PFP seamlessly integrated with all Petco inventory sources and customer profile information, existing commerce systems, and distributed order management (DOM) systems such as IBM Sterling Order Management Systems (OMS). The Yantriks Scaligent Technology allows the platform to support 1,000s of transactions per second, with single to double-digit millisecond response times, easily handling Petco’s current (and future) transaction volume. Our very own Vadi Ramamurthy, VP of Enterprise Architecture & Services at Yantriks and his team lead the integration and development effort with Petco and did a fantastic job. With Yantriks, Petco enabled this in just a few months and it’s now operational in all retail locations.

We couldn’t be more proud to partner with Petco and we are excited about supporting their future e-commerce strategy.

To be successful in today’s retail market, the customer needs to be at the center of most business decisions. We are thankful Petco listened to their customers.
